Canadian citizen from Syria; arrested at JFK on 9/26/02, Arar was interrogated by the US for 12 days, then flown to Jordan, and then Syria under a process called "extraordinary rendition;" in Syria, Arar was kept in a small underground cell, and tortured for 10 months; he was released on 10/5/03.
